SUPPORT SERVICES & LEARNING INCENTIVES

Youth enrolled in SER YouthBuild Learning Academy are eligible to receive support services, stipends, and incentives as they complete courses, as part of the “Earn as you Learn” program.

Incentives for eligible learners include:

  • $25 for increasing 1 casas reading or math test level.
  • $20 for CPR or First Aid certification completion.
  • $20 for OSHA 10 certification completion.
  • $50 per completed High School course.

Incentives unique to the YouthBuild Skilled Trades Readiness Program:
$700+ stipend and supportive services are available including assistance with transportation, getting a photo ID, work tools, laptop, and internet services.

Support services for eligible students include:

  • Free tutoring with a state certified instructor or teacher.
  • Daily or weekly bus passes, along with other transportation assistance options.
  • Drop-in on-site childcare services and strategies for long term care.
  • Housing, food, and clothing referrals.
  • Financial counseling.
  • Parenting courses.
  • Resume creation, career coaching, and job placement services.
  • Assistance with getting a photo ID.
  • Assistance obtaining supplies for coursework including tools, laptop, and internet.

Ask about YouthBuild, Career Coaching, or in-house construction credentials and patient care tech certifications available at both of our locations.

SER Learning Academy also offers work-based learning positions, work readiness programs, and resume creation assistance.

In addition, we offer specialized programs and assistance for English Language Learners and Exceptional Learners at both of our locations.

How does attendance work?

Yes! SER YouthBuild Learning Academy are chartered by Detroit Public schools. We are the only online learning lab / alternative credit recovery program structured like this in Metro Detroit.

Attendance is mandatory. Classes begin at 9:00am and are held every weekday, Monday through Friday.

Both of our campuses house the High School Diploma completion programs.

When is the first day of school?

Tuesday, September 6th, 2022 – Classes begin at 9:00am!

Is this a virtual program?

SER YouthBuild Learning Academy is not fully virtual, but is structured in an alternative education/learning lab format.

We believe you achieve your goals most efficiently through in-person classes with support and flexible instruction. Daily attendance is mandatory and the academy calendar is structure as regular semesters.

However; you will be able to complete classes faster by working on your coursework at-home, online. Students are not limited to classroom access to the APEX system.

Technology will be available for those individuals that may need it through the Lending Library.

We’ll also help you come up with a plan for reliable childcare and have a variety of resources to offer that you may not be familiar with yet. We are ready to help!
